What's in a name?
For our second little one, it's all about favorites.
My favorite movie of all time is 'Gone With the Wind'. My favorite female movie character is, of course, Scarlett O'Hara, played by the late Vivien Leigh.
Since discovering this character (think high school era), I've adored the name Vivien.
I'm not the kind of person that likes to let things go unplanned. So, once our first, Savannah Jean, was named, it was time to start thinking
Once we decided to begin trying for baby #2, I bugged Adam on a regular basis with lists of options he could veto with the exception of one name, Vivien. I drew the line in the sand and told him that name was not negotiable in the event we were to have a girl.
The only problem was the spelling. It sounds weird, but I didn't like how many letters it had.
...Enters into the scene Mrs. Brad Pitt and their gene pool jackpot kids...she opted for the French spelling when naming one of their daughters, Vivienne. There it was, the perfect solution for the perfect name.
A week ago, we opted for a panel of genetic tests done easily via blood draw. Along with screening for a variety of scary genetic abnormalities, it would also give us with high certainty, gender revelation.
While waiting for results, Adam and I went back and forth between middle name options.
Amongst the middle name options were:
Vivienne Althea (a nod to the Grateful Dead)
Vivienne Leigh (a nod to Gone With the Wind)
Vivienne Aria (with different spelling, but because I had been binge watching Game of Thrones all week)
We had liked Rose as a middle name when we considered Charlotte as a first name for Savannah. Savannah was ultimately given a middle name that would connect her as the first great grandchild on Adam's side with his grandfather. You can read that story here.
We decided to go back to the middle name we had always liked but just match it up with Vivienne.
As a bonus...Adam noticed before we finalized the name that when said out loud, Vivienne Rose sounds like the name of our song, "La Vie En Rose" (as performed by Louis Armstrong).
All of the genetic tests came back negative of any abnormalities and of course, we received the sweet gender news via a hand written note from our doctor's nurse...."It's a girl! Congratulations!!"
I wanted to draw out the process for Adam all day once I had the envelope in hand, but he offered to take me to lunch at any place of my choosing (Pappadeaux!!) if I agreed to open the envelope early.
Remember that before kids, Adam and I opened our Christmas presents for one another, on average, 2 weeks before Christmas! Talk about zero impulse control!
We're absolutely thrilled with the coming addition!
Even Savannah has started calling the baby "Vivi Rose" instead of "the baby in your tummy."
I don't think Savannah actually understands the changes coming our way, but she's excited to brag about it to anyone she encounters anyway.
