What's missing?
Hmmmm.....A BABY!
I know it's still early in the game, being only 38 weeks today, but with baby Savannah packing on approximately a 1/2 lb. a week, I'm getting very uncomfortable. Simple tasks like sitting up in bed, getting out of bed...really anything that requires use of the core muscles...it's just not happening without assistance.
To top it all off, as I type this post, I noticed that the shift key on my keyboard is officially broken.
This is particularly troublesome as it selected the letter "S" to completely crap out on.
Considering my baby's name is SAVANNAH...very irritating!
I have to press caps lock every time I need a capital S!
Did I mention my physical limitations and the weight around my mid-section are causing wild mood swings? Let's just say my keyboard was this close <..> to being thrown on the floor and being stomped on!
Ahhhh!!!
I've been MIA for a whole week from blogging.
I don't have a good excuse for it.
Let's see...anything of interest happen...we stayed up to watch the SEC championship. That was fun and tiring. I love Alabama, but am not allowed to cheer against Georgia at any time considering my father-in-law is a letterman.
Adam insists that if we take Savannah to enough Georgia games in Athens as she's growing up, that's where she'll want to go to school, even if we live several states (or maybe countries) away.
Sunday kicks off our work week here, so I logged in to get a presentation finished I considered my final, final, final...really-mean-it- this-time, final assignment before starting maternity leave.
That lasted through about Monday, then I was REALLY done with work...or so I thought.
It's looking like as long as I don't go into labor, I'll continue getting meeting requests and conference call requests.
This is where my abstract was published! |
On the plus side, right before heading out of the office last week, my boss brought me a Society of Petroleum Engineers publication where an abstract I wrote had been selected for discussion next April. It was printed in their publication and has a presentation date for next March! Such an honor!
It was a great way to kick off my maternity leave, even though I didn't really kick it off considering the Crackberry addiction and my insistence on continuing to log in each morning.
So now we're all packed and ready for Savannah's big arrival.
Packing my go bag wasn't as much of a big deal as it was to pack her diaper bag for the first time.
I packed it, unpacked it, repacked it, reorganized it...it was pretty stressful.
I've never packed someone else's bag before, not even my husband's stuff.
It felt like a test, my first good mommy test.
Ready to run to the hospital! |
I packed 2 sizes of diapers, cotton balls, 2 types of baby & nappy lotions, several sets of pjs, 2 different coming home outfits (in case she decides my first choice is uncomfortable), socks, mittens, hats, hair clips....you get the picture.
I don't want to get in a situation where I need something for her and don't have it. I would feel like such a disappointment. I know it's silly, but as a first time mom, I'm allowed some silly!
I'm having a difficult time adjusting to being at home for leave. I'm accustomed to the rush of getting up, rushing through breakfast, rushing to get ready and running out the door. As irritating as it got the last few weeks because of my growing mid section (as in, I had to take breaks in between pulling up each pant leg), that morning rush is what kicked off daily routines.
To my credit, I've been out of my pjs and showered every morning by 8am. Only problem is my current daily uniform consists of yoga pants and flip flops! I do not want to turn into one of those women.
I mean, to each their own, but I love dressing up every day! I don't like wearing clothes that allow you to lie yourself about fluctuations in eating habits and exercise, if you catch my drift. Elastic is evil and bad for the female movement! Too much? Eh, whatevs. The point is, I don't like looking sloppy. I feel unprepared, even on days I had nothing to prepare for.
Anyway, I know new routines will start taking shape once Savannah arrives, but right now, just watching the calendar and waiting to start feeling contractions...
It's pretty boring.
Daddy's ready and so are her toy bins! |
I like to give myself at least one daily task to complete, but once it's finished, I usually just end up taking a nap. I'm not a nap person. I'm a complain-that-I-miss-naps person. There is a difference!
We are very insistent on letting Savannah take her time and make her appearance without any medical induction, but you bet I'm out there walking every evening and doing weird looking stretches trying to "encourage" her. She has two very stubborn parents, so she is likely to continue ignoring me and make her way when SHE feels like it. My baby is likely to be smart as a whip, but is going to give me lots of gray hair!
So, now that we're all caught up, I hope everyone had a great week.
If I don't post an update for another week, one of two things happened...
I've given birth OR I'm feeling like I need to accumulate several days of slow activity to have something to blog about.
