Thanksgiving is a very special holiday in our home. It's not only occasion to gather, give thanks and enjoy great food. It's also our tradition to kick off the Christmas season this weekend!
Of course, this Thanksgiving required a few modifications from our traditional celebration.

We started with a very nice Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday with a couple of new Abu Dhabi friends at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. It was a great time! It was kind of quirky that we were actually the only Americans at the dinner. One of the families was from Holland and celebrating Thanksgiving for the first time, the other family is Thai/Canadian. They also had not had a traditional Thanksgiving in a while. The food was delicious and the great company made it even better!
There's no such thing as "Black Friday" here. Wait-side bar!

I loathe Black Friday-middle-of-the-night-shopping. It bothers me that so many workers have to leave their families to work those odd hours during a holiday meant to celebrate being thankful for what you have and togetherness of family. I'll take advantage of the occasional online sale, but would never leave my loved ones for a discount! No offense to those who think it's worth it. I just can't see how picking up a couple of TVs, a toaster or anything else on sale, on a holiday, makes sense.
Ok - stepping off my soap box now.
Anyway, we woke up Friday and pretty much lounged around then went for a light lunch at a quirky restaurant that can't decide if it's an American biker pub or a hip European racing restaurant, Stars-N-Bars. An Ace Hardware just opened up nearby and it has EVERYTHING you can think of! No Black Friday shopping here, so we bought a couple of Christmas lights to get the really special tradition started - Christmas decorating!
Finally, tonight (Saturday night-our Sunday equivalent), Adam wanted to give us a little piece of home and cooked us a wonderful roast chicken with all the traditional Thanksgiving sides.
We're ready for Christmas!
