We've made it to the 8 month mark!! We're so close to meeting our little girl and so anticipation and shaky nerves are starting to settle in. Along with this is a fresh wave of exhaustion and my normally impatient nature is receiving a fresh wave of adrenaline. Luckily, I'm tending to focus that energy on targets other than my poor husband. He's normally equally as impatient and testy as I am. He still holds out hope our little Savannah will be blessed with the gift of patience we lack. I suspect otherwise. If our apple doesn't fall far from the tree, we're in for quite the ride!
Yesterday, we also paid a visit to her pediatrician. I wanted to get a good feel for her bedside manner and approach to children's medicine before Savannah comes along. We're both happy with her and like the way the clinic is set up. We even inspected how clean the bathrooms were.
I do realize I seem to be bordering neurotic. It's my first baby and I think pediatrician interviews would have been standard had we stayed in the States.
Otherwise, just looking forward to a long weekend off from work. We're putting the finishing touches on her nursery. We're also likely to purchase another small crib for our bedroom. Not sure if I'll let her stay the entire six months the 'attachment parenting' books suggest, but I will let her stay in our room for at least the first month.
It's the busiest time of the year at work. I'm going to be there to finish our big projects and so the finish line is officially November 29th for me. I plan on staying plugged in pretty much until the day she arrives. I can't imagine what my inbox would look like if I didn't clear out my email regularly! Afterwards, I'll stay offline until the end of January then work from home until early June (told you my employer is incredible)! I feel so fortunate and grateful to have this extended time period to find my balance as a worker-bee and new momma. I didn't realize what sort of drive this baby would give me to not only be a good parent, but also to give 100% to everything else! I've even decided on starting 3X-a-week workouts with a personal trainer along with regular treadmill dates beginning late January. I want to be sure I get my energy back to keep my mind clear and focused as well as just to have an outlet for all the new pressures.
It's still early, but I'm starting to get a fuzzy picture of what life will be like after December. I like what I see!
