I've never been to the Races in the evening before,
I've been to the dogs in the evening but never the horse races. But our gorgeous visitor Hamilton had gotten us some gratis tickets so off we all popped in our glad rags to Meydan.
Meydan is Dubai's Horse Racing stadium and is (as with most structures in Dubai) really impressive. Meydan will host the Dubai World Cup at the end of the March which is one of the social events of the year. So we'll be back for that even more dolled up as hats are a must. No probs as I love a bit of glamour...FACT!
One thing I find a total 'glamour killer' is the use of plastic cups at outside events. I agree that at some venues it makes sense to have plastic glasses. I've been to packed nightclubs and gigs were I was very thankful they had plastic glasses, as people tend to get a bit mental and throw them. But this trend of giving you wine in a plastic pint pot, just because you are outside anywhere drives me crackers!!
I question if it's necessary at Meydan to serve wine in plastic beakers on a quiet night, where the average age must have been 60! Not exactly an audience that's gonna start a tear up and glass each other!!
Another weird quirk is that you can't actually bet on the horse races, so instead we had our own pool going at £5 per person per race. Hamilton cleaned up - a jolly time was had by all.
Hamilton, Jess and I with our beakers of wine very glam! |
p.s.I've been instructed to point out that Hamilton,'won' all the races due to his superior intellect and racing knowledge.
